Augenoptik Roost AG

Augenoptik Roost AG in Schaffhausen was renovated by pfeffermint AG to optimize workflows in the three-story, heritage-listed building. The renovation created 350m² of space for 30 employees and included the installation of an elevator, which provides barrier-free access to the examination rooms on the upper floor, creating more space for the sales area. At the center of the store is a striking counter that serves a variety of purposes: as a cash register, reception and consultation point, and as a bar during events. Above it hangs a custom-made light fixture made of glass tubes, which further enhances the space. An oak partition wall behind it adds warmth to the store and provides a retreat for staff. The color scheme on the ground floor is dominated by a soft light blue and a warm terracotta red, while subtle off-white tones serve as a backdrop for the eyewear display. A new, generous sliding glass door and flexible, free-standing shop window modules significantly improve the store's external appearance. The floor plan also needed to include a space for children. An additional section of the oak wall creates a small, valuable retreat. Here, a different world of colors and shapes suddenly finds its place around the in-house children's mascot “Ooculi.” Optometric examinations take place on the upper floor, where a cozy atmosphere was deliberately chosen instead of the typical sterile practice look. The new staircase leads to a reception desk in the same wall color as the ground floor, connecting the two floors in terms of design. Behind it is a spacious wall cupboard with integrated doors leading to the three examination rooms in soothing green tones. The spacious waiting area offers a view of the open administrative area and the charming old town architecture, which has been exposed again. The renovation took a total of five months. The ceiling on the ground floor was stripped back to the steel beams and renovated in accordance with current fire safety regulations. Most of the walls were stripped back to the masonry and then neatly replastered. Exciting traces of previous renovations from the last few centuries came to light.
